Wisdom’s Resume: Why She’s Worth Pursuing, Proverbs 8:12–21

In Sunday’s message, “Wisdom’s Resume,” we were reminded that if we’re going to let something guide our lives, it should be something—or someone—worth trusting. Wisdom, personified in Proverbs 8, steps forward with a resume that makes her the obvious choice.

1. Wisdom’s Attributes (vv. 12–13)

Just like any good hire, we want to know: What is she like?
Wisdom brings both practicality and purity to the table. She lives in unity with discernment, discretion, and knowledge—skills that help us navigate life with purpose. But wisdom is also deeply moral. She fears the Lord and hates evil, pride, arrogance, and perverse speech. In other words, she doesn’t just know what’s right—she lives it.

2. Wisdom’s Accomplishments (vv. 14–16)

What has she done? A lot.
Wisdom offers good counsel, sound judgment, understanding, and strength. It’s by her that kings reign and rulers lead well. Her track record is clear—those who embrace her experience real success, the kind that glorifies God and blesses others.

3. Wisdom’s Additions (vv. 17–21)

What can she bring to your life?
Those who love wisdom will find themselves loved in return. She promises reciprocity, revelation, riches, and righteousness. Wisdom leads to fruitfulness, both practically and spiritually. She doesn’t just help you get things—she helps you become someone who can handle them with integrity.

So, why don’t we always choose wisdom?

The truth is, many of us “hire” other guides—our feelings, the culture, or our own pride—because we don’t want wisdom to challenge our sin. But as our pastor reminded us:

If you reject the best candidate for the job, there’s an ulterior motive—and it’s usually sin.

Let’s not ignore the resume right in front of us. Wisdom is calling, and she’s more than qualified.

Application:
This week, consider: Are you pursuing wisdom in your daily decisions, relationships, and goals? Open Proverbs 8 again, and ask the Lord to help you choose wisdom—because when you choose wisdom, you’re choosing the way of life.
