Celebrating 38 Years of Faithful Service in the Chinese Ministry at First Baptist Lafayette

This Sunday, we invite you to join us as we celebrate the retirement of Queenie Lau from our Chinese Ministry after 38 years of faithful and devoted service. For nearly four decades, Ms. Queenie has poured her heart into serving the Lord and loving our church family with steadfast commitment and grace. We are deeply grateful for her legacy of faithfulness and give thanks to God for her incredible impact.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Ms. Queenie Lau finished her studies in Hong Kong Baptist College in 1977. She taught in a high school for seven years before responding to God’s calling to full-time Christian ministry.

In 1988, after Ms. Queenie graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, she began serving at FBC Lafayette as a summer intern, leading a Chinese Christian Fellowship group for students at USL.

By the end of the summer, Ms. Queenie, Pastor Perry Sanders, and Singles Minister J.D. Stake felt led to begin official Chinese mission work in Lafayette, with support from the Louisiana Baptist Convention (LBC) Language Missions Division.

In 1999, construction of a Chinese Missions Building was completed through support from the LBC’s Women’s Missions Union, Carpenters for Christ, as well as many FBC members’ donations and sacrifices. This building has since become a “home away from home” for many Chinese people.

Throughout the years, Ms. Queenie has faithfully ministered to Chinese people from all walks of life. She has led countless Chinese people in one-on-one Bible studies, in order to help them better and more personally understand the message of the Gospel and grow in their faith.

In the last 38 years, over 3000 people have been reached for Christ through the Chinese Ministry. Many Chinese students and families have accepted Christ here and some have even carried the Good News back to China. About 90% of them came to the Ministry as non-believers and had never been exposed to Christianity or church life before.

Please continue to pray for the Chinese Ministry’s future success, as well as Ms. Queenie’s new journey, according to God’s will!
